End the Debt Trap: Advancing Borrowers’ Coordination in the Evolving Global Debt Architecture

This meeting explores how coordinated expert networks can better support countries, strengthen collaboration, and advance fairer debt restructuring solutions.

April 17, 8:00 – 10:00 AM; by invitation only | Washington D.C.

Borrowing countries negotiating debt restructuring continue to face a structural disadvantage in negotiations. Building on recent discussions, FES New York, Suramericana Vision, International Trade Union Confederation and Latindadd are convening a meeting to advance the next phase of the End the Debt Trap initiative by exploring how a coordinated network of experts and stakeholders can effectively support debtor countries in navigating the evolving global debt architecture. It will provide a space for dialogue with a focus on identifying concrete country needs, strengthening collaboration, and defining the role of civil society and expert networks in complementing emerging initiatives such as the UNCTAD’s Borrowers Platform.
