The 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) succeeded in mobilizing international actors around a shared vision of global development. Yet the profound shortfall in meeting the SDGs signals that a successor framework cannot simply be more of the same. A Beyond-2030 Agenda will emerge in a world of deep geopolitical fracture, a multilateral system under financial and legitimacy strain, and a discredited neoliberal development paradigm. The questions at stake are fundamental: Does the world still need global goals, and if so, what kind? What economic principles should guide development in place of the old orthodoxies? How do states build the capacity to actually deliver? How is it financed, and by whom?

To address these questions and develop a compelling and rigorous progressive vision for the future, FES New York iorganizes various high-level dialogues in the upcoming months and launches a discussion paper series on a Beyond-2030 Agenda.

We will kick-off our series of events on the Beyond-2030 Agenda during the upcoming High-Level-Political Forum (HLPF) in July with an informal expert debate, featuring Rita Schwarzeluehr-Sutter, Germany’s Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for the Environment
