Middle Powers and New Coalitions: A Pivotal Force for Renewed Multilateralism?

As major powers retreat, middle powers and coalitions are reshaping global development and tackling the $4 trillion SDG gap.

As major powers retreat from multilateral commitments, a new generation of middle powers and new coalitions are seizing the moment to reshape global development architecture and tackle the $4 trillion SDG financing gap. This roundtable will bring together 40 senior leaders from government finance and foreign ministries, multilateral development banks, policy research institutions, and civil society to examine how emerging coalitions can forge effective governance mechanisms reflecting today's multipolar reality. Under Chatham House Rule, participants will explore concrete pathways for middle power leadership over the next 12-18 months, focusing on operational frameworks that balance bilateral and multilateral engagement while catalyzing renewed multilateralism in our fractured international system.
