FES at the Annual Meetings of IMF and World Bank
The Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group were held in in Marrakesh from 9-15 October 2023. As the city welcomed ministers of finance and development, private sector executives, academics, and civil society experts, this year's gathering promised to be a pivotal event, offering a platform to address pressing global economic challenges, forge collaborations, and shape the future of international finance.
Alongside the Reinventing Bretton Woods Committee, the Policy Center for the New South and Initiative for Policy Dialogue, the FES New York office co-hosted two sessions during the Marrakesh Economic Festival, an extensive multi-day program which brought together some of the world's leading economic minds.
On Wednesday, October 11, economist Paoloa Subachi presented the findings of her new FES report on the risks of geoeconomic fragmentation in the international financial and monetary systems. Watch here.
On Friday, October 13, we were delighted to co-host a special plenary session on sovereign debt distress in the Global South, featuring Argentina's former Minister of Economy Martín Guzmán and subsequently a dinner and keynote speech by Nobel Laureate economist Joseph Stiglitz. Watch here.
