Today’s changes in the geopolitical landscape inflict crises on international collaboration and have put multilateralism at a crossroads. Against this backdrop, participants of FES New York’s 2018 Fall Academy explored the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development for their own progressive, transformative politics.

During this week-long workshop, participants were encouraged to look at the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a tool to revitalize democracy and foster conversation between governments and civil society. They learned about the SDGs and received guidance on how to navigate related UN processes, and how to link national, regional and global aspirations.

The Academy provides and interactive environment in which participants collaborated on different topics (e.g. gender equality, decent work for all, consumption, climate change, the power of numbers) in order to share expertise and learn from each other's experiences. At the end of the Academy, participants developed their own individual policy papers to create synergies between the 2030 Agenda and the work they do in their home countries.
