Advancing the UN75 Declaration 10/22/2020 22:00 to 01/01/1970 00:00 - How can we strengthen and renew global governance together? The Alliance for Multilateralism, Stimson Center, UN2020, Together First, Baha’í International Community, and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung New York Officec-convened a lively, global virtual discussion on Friday, October 23rd from 9:30 am – 11:00AM ET. In September 2020, world leaders endorsed the UN75 Declaration, which details twelve commitments for strengthening global governance to better address global threats, challenges, and opportunities. It further requests the Secretary-General of the United Nations to report back before the end of the 75th UN General Assembly with specific recommendations to advance this common global agenda. This virtual conversation explored: i) concrete ways to build on momentum from UN75 to work toward more ambitious global governance strengthening and renewal goals; and ii) ideas on deepening cooperation between global civil society and the Alliance for Multilateralism to further global governance innovation over the coming years. Since its launch in 2019, the Alliance for Multilateralism has worked to advance reforms, without compromising on key principles and values, in order to make multilateral institutions and the global political and economic order more inclusive and effective in delivering tangible results to citizens around the world. Similarly, networks within global civil society, such as the UN2020 initiative and Together First, have worked to leverage the UN75 process to make the UN and other global institutions more inclusive and fit for purpose.
